The New NSWA Website

NSWA Screen ShotFor your consideration, the newly made over North Shore Writers' Association website: www.nswriters.bc.ca

The website is now running on the Drupal content management framework and makes extensive use of the Views and CCK (Content Construction Kit) modules. Views is incredible. What I was doing with SQL queries I can do faster and easier in the Views user interface. More over, Views is theme friendly and likes to give a helping hand. The code snippets it provided turned a potentially hair pulling theming experience into a straight forward process. Combined with CCK for creating custom nodes, laying down the bones was easy. Kudos to Earl Miles, Jonathan Chaffer, Karen Stevenson and the other developers for such awesome modules.

The 80/20 rule was definitely in effect on this project. The general site functionality was in place in less than a day thanks to CCK and Views. The theming took much, much longer than I estimated, even though I started from an existing theme. Every time I thought I was close to done I discovered yet another batch of things that needed doing. Then the moment came and voila. C'est fini!

Of course, there's always more work to do. The theme still needs some tweaking and some old content needs moving. Then there's the new features I'd really like to add . . . .

Later.

For now, I'm just savoring the moment.

Comments

I just spent a bit of time on the site and it looks good. Nice and clean and I really like the right sidebar and it's various sections. Also nice is the RSS at the bottom. A nice touch that's easy to find.

Congrats!

Thanks, Marina. Drupal makes it easy!
